Trick? Or Treat?

01 Apr

Green on the outside and orange in the middle. What is this vegetable?

A pumpkin of course! Did the veggie fool you?

Well, it’s a Japanese pumpkin at any rate. They’re never orange on the outside, always green. It’s great for cooking, and my husband makes the most delicious pumpkin soup. Just don’t try using it for a Jack o’ Lantern, it won’t work very well.

(If you’re also living in Japan and need a ‘real’ pumpkin for carving, check out the Foreign Buyer’s Club in Tokyo.)
