It’s summer time, and as the days get hotter, family pool / swim centers / water parks look better and better…but only for some people. As you can see in the right hand bottom of this travel poster, tatoos are not allowed! ‘Keep Out Tatoo’ are the words that they use. And it’s not only some water parks that have this rule, but onsens (natural hot springs) can barred tattooed people (and gyms).
Some do have a sign that says Western style tattoos are okay (very few). Why Western tattoos and not Eastern tattoos? Because the yakuza have tattoos.
I’ve seen tattoos on the younger generation (but I also live among a high percentage of Brazilian descendants) so I wonder, will this rule ever go away? And in the meantime, I’ll head to Caribbean Beach where they don’t care.
