Limited Time Offer

One of the things I love about McDonalds is that here, in Japan, they will come up with many limited time burger specials. I’ve blogged a bit about the Big America series burgers, but I think that the Korean BBQ burger was awesome! The sauce was amazing…*sigh* Why was it so limited!?

And, along with the special burger, you could wash it down with strawberry Pepsi! Actually pretty good, if a little strange / weird. Again, another limited time special and I wish it was back out.

Milky Way – Way Better Than the Bar

So this is Milky Way, a star and constellation themed cafe in Ikebukuro. Even though the food itself is not out-of-this-world (pun intended), it’s worth a quick beam down (hehe).

They have 13 constellations on their star map, with the ‘normal’ 12 Americans know (Pisces, Aquarius, Aries, Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Leo, Cancer, Taurus, Scorpio, Capricorn and Sagittarius) and an ‘extra’ constellation that just came back due to the Earth’s rotation / the ancient Babylonians only wanting 12 signs. Introducing the snake, Ophuchicus.

You can order desserts by constellation, and they have all the dates to make sure you know when yours is. (I used to be an Aquarius, but am apparently a Capricorn now).

Anyhow, let me show you how delicious snakes can look.

And even better…it smokes!

Moon Burger

September is a nice month. Summer is losing it’s harsh edge, Autumn is whirling in with breezes, and one of the most important things to do this month is to moon view. Today was supposed to be the best day for viewing, but I think that the clouds voted no. And while we were at the supermarket, McDonald’s had their Moon Viewing Burger, the tsukimi burger.

It’s a special peppery sauce with a slice of bacon and a poached egg, where the yolk represents the moon on a white sky. While I’m not a big fan of Mac, I will go out of my way to eat this limited time special.

King God Burger

The bet place for burgers in Maebashi, sorry, in Gunma at least. From avacado burgers to spicy burgers, potatoes (fries) to sweets burgers (ice cream and toppings) they have what you need. Not what you want; “This is not Burger King. You can’t have it your way. You’ll have it my way or not.” says the sign inside.

But it’s worth it….;-)

Bagel Ice Cream

On the way back home from Ikebukuro, my husband and I stopped at a bagel store. Now, normally in Japan, bagels are sad things that you need to pile lots of cream cheese / onion / something on to make edible. This is true in my ‘country’ city of Isesaki…but in Tokyo….ah, real bagels!

Or, bagels with ice cream inside? Hmmm, this might be a good idea. We were too stuffed with dinner (soup!), but the next time we go there in the summer, maybe around August 13th with a friend, I wanna stop here again and get one. Maybe the blueberry… 🙂

Squid on a Stick

During the summer festivals, where you’re walking down the street, some of the best foods come on a stick. Candy apples, sugared fruits, fresh cucumber, fresh pineapple, cotton candy, octopus (as you’ve already seen) and its friend, squid.

Enjoy, roasted squid on a stick. But watch where you step, ’cause they go squish if you step on it! 😉

(first time I went to Kiryu festival, someone in our group slipped on a squid.)

On a Stick and On a Dog

My husband, two friends and I all went to the Ota festival where there was a wonderfully nice guy eating octopus on a stick who didn’t mind if I snapped his photo (one thing I worry about when taking people photos is being annoying; I also make sure I have permission to take the photo). On a stick is a wonderful way to eat things, and there are restaurants in Japan where that’s the only thing on the menu. I also love his beer 🙂

We also saw an interesting dog at the festival too…

The dog decided not to have his / her face in the picture unfortunately, but the red yukata looks really cute! I knew that they made clothing for dogs, but I’ve never seen a festival outfit for canines.
